Veolia's purpose is to contribute to human progress, by resolutely adhering to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN, in order to achieve "a better and more sustainable future for all". Veolia is involved to a greater or lesser extent in the implementation of each of the 17 UN SDGs, with a direct impact on 13 of them.
We have recently partnered with The Mbeko Eco Club and together we are actively contributing to the SDGs with a focus on:
- Goal (4) inclusive and equitable quality education
- Goal (6) clean water and sanitation
- Goal (13) climate action
- Goal (17) being partnerships for goals
Mbeko Eco Club works to facilitate environmental education and awareness with youth and women through outside classrooms (Outdoors Education) and Eco-tours excursions (Place Based Learning) workshops to learn about sources of water quality, climate change, biodiversity conservation and conservation agriculture.
The Eco Club offers a variety of environmental education programmes including:
- Berg River Water Stewards – water quality improvement and River health monitoring, water efficiency and water value chains
- Climate change adaptation – positive youth development, leadership, responsibility and building connections and opportunities in entrepreneurship to transitioning in a green economy.
- Biodiversity conservation – Paarl Birds Sanctuary Birds Water Birds Habitat and King Fisher Bird on the Berg River, Spekboom nursery for carbon sequestration
- Soil Care and food security – Carbon sequestration and planting of Spekboom trees
- Innovation Hub – Localization of sustainable development with ESG, Reading room, digital literacy, Green economy Career Pathways STEM and inclusive
